Visiting the Pediatrician. Michelle in Honduras
“Visit to the Pediatrician” Resident International Elective, Honduras, 2013

At Georgetown we have a broad patient base and many of our residents and faculty are involved in international and global health. All residents have the opportunity to attend global health lectures and participate in international rotations. Some residents choose to join the more formal Global Health Track and combine their required scholarly project with a global health experience. Examples of projects conducted by residents in the past include:

  • General health care of cancer patients in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • Comparison of clinical decision making strategies of village health workers with medical volunteers from the US in Comayagua, Honduras
  • Indoor pollution and asthma in Colombo, Sri Lanka
  • Post-earth quake care for women and children in Pakistan
  • The effects of malnutrition on the response to HAART in Durban, South Africa
  • Introduction of HAART in Mbabane, Swaziland

Other residents have chosen to join primary health care projects in a variety of developing countries.
