PL-1: Blue Intern

Blue Intern Responsabilities

This PGY1 resident will have primary responsibility for the care of patients on the Blue team, which will consist of hematology/oncology patients receiving chemotherapy as well as patients with general hematology problems such as sickle cell anemia, ITP, hemophilia, neutropenia and sepsis. When possible the blue intern should also see patients in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic with attending supervision. Clinic visits will be for initial diagnosis and for follow-up on patients who have been or are being treated for problems such as leukemia, lymphoma, osteosarcoma, sickle cell disease, hemophilia, ITP and other medical issues.

The Blue intern will spend 3 day time weeks on service and 1 week of combined night float (you will cover both Gray and Blue service)per rotation.  Morning sign-in for the Blue Team should occur as a team at 6:45am Monday through Friday, and evening sign-out should occur as a team at 5:30pm. Weekend morning sign-in should be coordinated with the team in order to allow preparation for rounds, and ideally, the presence of the SAR on rounds. On weekends the post-call intern will sign out prior to rounds at 7am. Please note that chemotherapy orders must be written and/or signed by an attending.
